"Instead of keeping track of my net worth, I focus on what my giving is doing," says David Allman. "Giving is an integral part of my life in Christ. It counteracts the worldly course that focuses on what we can accumulate and it serves as an antidote for materialism."

For years, David and his wife Donna have shared this attitude and put it into practice by giving through NCF. As teens, David and Donna both had first-hand involvement with Young Life, a large Christian youth ministry. "Now, through NCF," David says, "we have been able to share in the work of Young Life and other ministries that impact communities by impacting individuals."

NCF has played an integral role in David's pursuit of effective and strategic giving. His NCF Giving Fund allows him flexibility to give at the level he desires, when he desires, and without having to make immediate decisions about where the dollars will be targeted. "Giving strategically and intentionally is a passion of my life," David says. "NCF's Giving Fund is key in facilitating that kind of purposeful giving."

David holds a deep-seeded understanding that everything we have comes from God, and he believes that he is here to serve others, not to be served. "I find that the older I get and the more my capacity to give has increased, the more joy I receive from my giving."

Winston Churchill once said, "You work to make a living. You give to make a life." David Allman is realizing that truth—he is making a life filled with the joy of giving to others.
