What else do people need besides money?

That's a question that has weighed heavily on the hearts of Deborah and Allan MacArthur over the years.

The couple married at a young age and quickly established good habits of financial giving – a tenth of their annual income to their church and additional offerings to other ministries. Eventually, the company Deborah worked for went public, and the MacArthurs were suddenly blessed with a significant amount of appreciated stock. They gave of this, too.

But something was missing. "It was great to be able to give money," Allan states, "but we felt a strong desire to give of our time, as well."

This desire was realized through Children's Haven, an orphanage in Morocco, North Africa, which Deborah and Allan began supporting financially. It wasn't long before they were crossing the Atlantic Ocean to spend a week at the orphanage, getting to know the kids and relieving missionary couples of their parenting duties for several days.

Following many more visits, the MacArthurs have decided to move to Morocco permanently in 2005 to become the new directors of the orphanage – a radical departure from their lives in corporate America. They will develop and lead multifunctional education programs and carry out the Bible's command to share God's love with orphans (James 1:27).

Deborah and Allan view NCF as a vital link in their giving strategy, which continues when they are out of the country. Through their NCF Giving Fund, Deborah says, "our tithes and offerings are being delivered on time, even when we are in a different time zone."

The MacArthurs also value the role NCF plays in qualifying ministries that receive their grants, allowing them to give more strategically.

Allan adds, "You can't outgive God. He has entrusted us with resources and dollars, and we have to find a way to use those today."
